Phillipines esports players are now officially athletes

The esports players from Phillipines will now officially be categorised as Athletes. Philippines has been making strides in esports with several organisations, teams and investors. According to a report by CBN, this comes after Gaming and Amusements Board (GAB), which is under the Office of the President allowed esports players to secure athletic licenses starting August.

We have had several cases of professional teams from Philippines such as Tnc Pro team, Fnatic face problems due to their VISA issues. This ruling will defintiely help them attend more tournaments and make a name for themselves. “Out of the millions of enthusiasts, only a handful make it to the big leagues. On a per capita basis, there are less eSports players that make it big than other athletes in other sports. So, for most people, this should remain to be a form of entertainment more than a calling,” Benitez said.
