Fortnite to add a new Legendary item : Port-A-Fortress

Fortnite will release another fort-building item in their upcoming patch. The new item, called Port-A-Fortress will be an upgrade to their existing, Rare, Port-A-Fort. Epic Games is already teasing a new item in the works, the Port-A-Fortress grenade. This grenade will be a legendary rarity item, which is already seen as an upgrade to Port-A-Fort.

The item’s description in-game is: “Toss down a Port-A-Fortress and take the defence to new heights:”. However, we don’t know how it looks like yet. Initial assumptions point towards a 3 b 3 base made of metal. The Fortress points to a huge structure which could potentially provide almost instantaneous cover for your entire team. How much will it change the gameplay?

From a top player’s perspective, this is a very situational item. While having a Fortress and a high vantage point is great, it is only used when considered relative to the opponents’ position. Building in Fortnite is a crucial part of the gameplay. A player will build structures according to his opponents positioning and movement. The Port-A-Fortress is a very situational item and you can use it gain a sudden defence or a vantage point. It is important to note that simply consuming the item will not give you a very high advantage over others. It is primarily a defence item, but it just adds a few more seconds before the eventual fight. What about Port-A-Fort?

Port-A-Fort was released in April 2018 and provided cover when consumed. The item saw massive usage and has been decent in the game till now. But with Port-A-Fortress in the works, Epic Games downgraded Port-A-Fort from Epic rarity to Rare Rarity. This was done in order to not have to vault Port-A-Fort in just one update. With the change to the ‘Rare Rarity’, Port-A-Fort can co-exist with Port-A-Fortress.

The new item does seem to be much better than Port-A-Fort which only spawns a tower. With a 1×1 base for Port-A-Fort, the new grenade already looks much better. It will be interesting to note if Port-A-Fortress has a metal base to it, which would mean a lot more cover than other items. We expect Port-A-Fortress to appear in the game within a week’s time.
