Importance of third place matches in esports tournaments

Traditionally teams have only been invested in securing the trophy and winning a tournament. That being said, tournaments have shied away from hosting third-place matches even with a prize money involved for it. Starladder I league Season 4 had the third-place match and it is fair to say that one of the teams was not invested into the match as the other.

3rd place deciders need to be abolished forever.

In my ~15 years of watching CS, I have never seen a 3rd place game where both teams actually tried to win.

Prize money reward is irrelevant, the tournament is over for those teams, they were eliminated.
