ESL One: New York: Mousesports triumphs over Gambit, Team Liquid crush G2

The first two teams for the ESL One: New York Semi-Finals have been revealed.

Mousesports beat Gambit in Winners’ Match

Mousesports went up against Gambit in what would be the first Winners’ Match of the series. Both teams had previously scored victories against their respective opponents and were not playing for a guaranteed place in the Semi-Finals. The first map and Gambit’s pick was Train and the team certainly shined during this game. It started with Gambit quickly taking the first three rounds and after trading a round with Mousesport, they quickly secured five more. Gambit’s stranglehold on the game while on the T side was absolutely noteworthy and this advantage carried over into the second half on the CT side. Gambit took the initial four rounds, though Mousesports were not ready to hand over the map yet and stole six for their team. Ultimately, Gambit turned it around in the final two rounds and closed the game at 16 – 11.

The next game saw the two teams playing on Dust2, where it first looked like that Gambit would triumph again and go straight to the Semi-Finals. It started with Gambit on the CT side, where they were able to take 11 rounds and things were looking quite good for them. However, the second half would prove disastrous as Mousesports captured all 12 rounds and finished the game 11 – 16. Yet still, Gambit performed quite well on the individual level, especially mou who had the best statistics from any player in the match.

The decider match would take place on Nuke and this is where we saw the cracks in Gambit’s play start to show. Surely demoralized from the perfect 12 – 0 half that Mousesports played the previous game, Gambit were barely able to put up a resistance. The first half saw Mousesports win 12 rounds to Gambit’s 3. While Gambit were able to get their foot in the door the second half, Mousesports quickly ground their advantage to a halt and stole the final three rounds.

With the conclusion of this game, Mousesports will go to the Semi-Finals, while Gambit will have to face NaVi for the right to continue the tournament.

Team Liquid take down G2

The next Winner’s Match in the Group Stage was between G2 and Team Liquid, who both won their respective matches on the opening day. The first map of the matchup was Cache and it was picked by G2. The game can only be described a total domination from Team Liquid. The NA team started on the T side and for the first half lost only 2 rounds. Their winning tendency would carry over into the second half, where they were able to overcome the initial push from G2 and secure the final three rounds needed to win the game. The match concluded 16 – 5 for Team Liquid. Inferno was Team Liquid’s pick and one would expect that they would dominate here as well. Interestingly enough, G2 had different ideas and played a great CT defense. Team Liquid were only able to take 5 rounds before they switched sides. Though once on the defense, Liquid were unstoppable. While G2 did win the pistol round in the second half, Team Liquid took seven rounds in a row and later four more to close the game.

The Inferno match concluded 16 – 13 in Team Liquid’s favor and the US-Canadian team is heading directly to the Semi-Finals. As a result, G2 will have to play on more matchup if they wish to have a chance at the Finals. Later today, they will go up against NRG, who took down FaZe Clan 2 – 0 in the Elimination Match.
